Rules & Manners

To ensure that everyone can enjoy Kaiyukan and Tempozan Harbor Village, we ask that you please follow the instructions below.
In addition to the cases listed below, we may have to speak to you or refuse your request at our discretion.

Items that cannot be brought into Kaiyukan

Large/long luggage

  • Luggage that does not fit into the largest locker in Tempozan Harbor Village. Also, long rod-shaped items such as fishing rods. Please see FAQ/Inquiries for the size of the coin lockers.
    *The largest size lockers are as follows:
    Width 461mm x Depth 645mm x Height 1162mm (1,000 yen)
  • Long rod-shaped objects can only be brought on board if they are walking aids such as walking sticks. (Fishing rods can be brought on board if they are folded and in a case.)
  • Strollers and other carts that are over 85cm wide may be refused entry due to the inaccessible passageways in some areas of the Aquarium. Strollers may be parked in the outdoor stroller parking area.

dangerous goods

  • Items generally considered dangerous, such as knives or poisonous substances, or items that may cause inconvenience to other customers

Anything that the hotel deems offensive to other guests

  • Items that have a pungent odor, such as those containing raw food
  • Anything grotesque or that other customers may find offensive

Unsealed drinks

  • Drinks in containers that may spill if they fall over, such as tumblers or drinking cups. * Drinks in containers with lids that will not spill even if they fall over, such as water bottles or plastic bottles, and baby food, etc. outside of the nursing room are permitted.However, please be considerate and drink carefully so as not to disturb other visitors' viewing, such as by sitting on a bench when drinking.
  • Please refrain from eating inside the Aquarium.

Self-propelled without brakes

  • Roller shoes, skateboards, striders, and other items without brakes *Wheelchairs and walking aids can be brought in and used. However, if there is a risk of colliding with other customers, the device is not maneuverable, or there are no brakes and the speed cannot be controlled, you may be asked to switch to one of the wheelchairs available for free rental at Kaiyukan.
    *Items over 85cm wide may be denied entry as there are paths within the Aquarium that they cannot pass through.

Alcohol

  • Bringing alcohol is prohibited. If you have souvenirs, please leave them in the lockers.
    *Drinking alcohol is not permitted inside the Aquarium.

Behavior prohibited within Kaiyukan

Unauthorized use of admission tickets

  • Purchasing tickets from unauthorized websites, reselling, or other fraudulent transactions

Turning on photography lights or taking flash photographs that dazzle creatures or other guests

  • Flash photography is prohibited in the Ringed seal tank at any time.

Shooting in a way that interferes with other customers' viewing, such as live streaming

  • Please refrain from taking photos that occupy the area in front of the tank for long periods of time, and from using tripods or selfie sticks. (Tripods may only be used as monopods.)

Use of lights, electronic bulletin boards, or other items that emit constant light

Entering the building in a costumed state or occupying the restroom for a long period of time while changing clothes or putting on makeup in a costume

We will refuse entry to guests wearing any of the following clothing or makeup that we determine to be unsuitable for the following reasons:

  • Anything that obstructs the passage of other customers
  • Anything that may offend other customers (exposed clothing, grotesque makeup, etc.)
  • Anything that makes it impossible to identify your face (such as headgear that obscures the face, face paint or makeup that covers the entire face, etc.)
  • Makeup that may come into contact with the facility or other guests

Eating meals outside of cafe ROF on the 4th floor and breastfeeding outside of the nursing room

  • Children may eat or drink beverages and baby food in containers with lids that will not spill even if they are knocked over.
    However, please be considerate and not disturb other customers when drinking, such as by sitting on a bench.

Bringing animals other than dogs and cats into the facility

  • We do not allow anyone other than dogs and cats to enter the building. If you bring a pet, you can only enter if it is in a pet carrier or pet cart and its face and body are not completely exposed. Also, if your pet barks, you may be refused entry.
    *Assistance dogs can enter the museum without a carrier case or pet cart.
    *Entry to Cafe ROF is not permitted.

Smoking in the Aquarium

  • Smoking is prohibited anywhere in the Aquarium, including electronic cigarettes. Please use the outdoor smoking area.

Other prohibited actions

  • Shouting loudly, using loudspeakers or other loud or unpleasant noises, discriminatory remarks
  • Do not occupy the area in front of the tank for a long period of time or otherwise obstruct other customers' views.
  • Actions that have a negative impact on the creatures, such as hitting the tank or inserting your hands into it
  • Throwing or swinging objects or other actions that endanger other customers

Items that are prohibited to bring into Tempozan Harbor Village and actions that are prohibited

Smoking

Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is prohibited except in designated areas.

Carrying on explosives, guns, knives and other dangerous items

Displaying signs, placards, banners, and other similar items

Handing out flyers and posting notices

Bringing long, rod-shaped objects such as golf equipment, tennis rackets, or baseball bats into the courts

Use of skateboards, kickboards, striders, etc.

Use of loudspeakers or megaphones (excluding group leaders)

Vehicle access (including bicycles)

Vending at outdoor stalls, etc. (excluding those permitted by the administrator)

Use of drones

Off-leash walks

Pets are not allowed in the dining areas on the premises.

Feeding the animals

Any other prohibited acts as determined by the administrator
