We announce the results of the "Osaka Bay Finless Porpoise Survey" (May 30th)
We would like to announce the results of the "Osaka Bay Finless Porpoise Survey" conducted on May 30th. Survey date: Saturday, May 30th, 2015. Departed from the pier next to the Kaiyukan at around 10:00. Returned at around 16:00. Survey location: Osaka Bay, near Kansai International Airport. Participants: 17 general participants, Kaiyukan staff, Professor Kondo and students from Osaka Eco Animal College, and media personnel. The weather was relatively calm on the day, but there was some wind, which caused the water surface to become choppy, making it very difficult to find a finless porpoise, which does not have a dorsal fin. Unfortunately, the participants were unable to find one, but Professor Kondo confirmed one finless porpoise southeast of Kansai Airport. Finless porpoise discovery location: Latitude: N34:22:40.21 Longitude: E135:12:26.52 This is the survey route.

A baby Pacific white-sided dolphin was born at the Kaiyukan Pacific white-sided dolphin! The baby dolphin swims close to its mother!
On Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 4:43 a.m., a Pacific white-sided Pacific white-sided dolphin gave birth in the Tasman Sea tank . You can now see the adorable newborn baby swimming close to its mother, Arch. The Pacific white-sided dolphin white-sided dolphin, nicknamed Arch (length approx. 200 cm, weight approx. 120 kg, estimated age 30 years old), was found to be pregnant last October based on the results of a blood test. After that, regular ultrasound scans were conducted to confirm that the baby was growing well. On August 20, Arch's body temperature dropped, which was thought to be a sign of birth, so observations were strengthened throughout the day and night. On August 23, at 3:47 a.m., the baby's tail fin appeared, and about an hour later, at 4:43 a.m., the baby was born while swimming underwater. The baby's estimated length is about 95 cm, its weight is about 12 kg, and its gender is unknown. The baby dolphin and its mother, Arch, will be open to the public as soon as the aquarium opens today. It is said that it is very difficult for Pacific white-sided dolphin to give birth and raise their young successfully. Since the mother, Arch, was first kept in captivity in May 1990, she has given birth in 2001, 2004, 2006, and 2010, making this her fifth birth. In order to prioritize a safe environment for this birth and rearing, Kaiyukan has installed a protective net to prevent the baby from colliding with rocks in the tank. Please note that flash photography is not permitted in front of the Tasman Sea tank. 1.
